EFFICIENT
SiC inside.
Our groundbreaking silicon carbide technology gives you higher efficiency and lower energy loss than IGBT designs, and it reduces space and cooling requirements in your solutions.
DEIF iE Convert power converters lose little electrical energy during conversion. The secret is our groundbreaking silicon carbide technology.
With silicon carbide and built-in filters, iE Convert devices only lose around 3-4% of the converted energy as heat, giving you high efficiency at system level. This is around half of what you can expect with IGBT designs where 6-7% of the input energy is typically lost.
In other words, more energy is retained after conversion, ready for use. And with less energy lost as heat, the need for power converter cooling is reduced.
The high efficiency and switching performance of the iE Convert range means that additional equipment will rarely be needed to condition the output energy. All necessary filters are built into the converter unit delivered by DEIF.
As a result, you can design compact and light power conversion systems. Compared to IGBT designs, an iE Convert powered solution can be up to 60% smaller and weigh 4 to 8 times less; great news when you are working with crowded ship engine rooms or tight BESS designs.
The silicon carbide wafers in iE Convert devices can withstand higher junction temperatures than IGBT designs, and the DEIF devices can operate in ambient temperatures from -20 to +60 degrees Celsius.
This resilience to high temperatures allows the power converter to sustain peak power production for an extended period of time, even in harsh operating environments. And to prevent operating temperatures from getting out of control, all DEIF power converters are fitted with liquid cooling.
GRID COMPLIANT
Pure energy.
With built-in filters and significantly higher switching frequencies than IGBT designs, DEIF iE Convert units deliver pure, grid-ready energy that usually requires no extra filters.
A DEIF iE Convert power converter delivers low harmonic, grid-ready energy. Additional filters or condensers will only rarely be needed.
The silicon carbide technology can achieve switching frequencies of 24 to 75kHz. This is significantly faster than IGBT designs and means that a DEIF iE Convert transforms electrical energy much more accurately, reducing ripple and harmonics and enabling faster control.
When used to convert DC to AC, this means that the sine wave of the output energy is very regular, or pure, with low interference. The output energy is therefore of very high quality and can be supplied directly to the grid.
In off-grid (island) operation, too, the pure output energy prevents noise and harmonics from disturbing other energy sources.
DEIF has worked with decentralised energy production for decades. We have extensive experience in developing, building, and using control devices that comply with the world’s grid codes.
This expertise is built into our iE Convert range, too: We know what it takes to deliver high-quality energy from any source that satisfies even stringent grid requirements.
When you work with DEIF power converters, you draw on that experience and expertise.
MULTI-PURPOSE
Convert anything.
Charge batteries from DC or AC sources. Supply AC or DC power from fuel cells, driving a propeller or thruster or providing shore connection. You can use the reliable and bi-directional iE Convert for any application, anywhere.
Bi-directional and highly configurable across a voltage range of up to 1500VDC, 690VAC, a DEIF iE Convert can be adapted for almost any conversion task, making it an indispensable building block in any energy system. Our converters are approved for marine use.
iE Convert units can therefore help you transfer, store, use, and sell energy in a wide range of applications regardless of voltage type, level, and frequency.
Our flexible power converters are built from individual power blocks that you can parallel and synchronise as needed to achieve higher power ratings.
All DEIF power converters come with a controller that can handle up to 8 power blocks. The controller communicates with the power blocks over a fibre optic connection. This controller interface allows you to carry out basic operations locally.
In addition to using the local control interface, you can connect to the control board from an external DEIF PLC or a third-party controller to integrate the iE Convert in your system architecture.
Operating environments are sometimes harsh, with intense heat, powerful vibrations, and other factors that challenge your systems. But you can count on iE Convert units to keep working when the going gets tough.
We rigorously test all equipment that leaves our factory to ensure that it meets our safety standards and complies with performance standards issued by authorities and classification societies.
But most importantly: to ensure that you can trust it. DEIF devices are known for reliability, and our iE Convert range is no exception.
Wide range of applications
The high efficiency of our iE Convert range helps you advance the evolution of energy solutions on land and at sea. Because you lose less energy, more can be stored, transferred, used, or sold. And the market-leading energy density of our converters saves space and weight compared to traditional IGBT designs.
This, and the ability to convert anything to anything, makes the iE Convert range ideally suited for a wide range of applications where electrical energy needs to be exchanged between AC or DC devices and systems. Examples include hybrid power plants with renewables, energy storage, galvanic isolation, shore connections for ships, and thruster control systems.
Groundbreaking technology built in Europe
Our iE Convert units are built on well proven technology developed and matured by our partner AVL using power electronic components from Wolfspeed, pioneers in silicon carbide. We develop, build, and test the iE Convert range at our fully automated manufacturing plant in Skive, Denmark
